Yes. We participate with major medical insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and most commercial insurance carriers.

As with any medical office, patients are responsible for any copayments, coinsurance, or deductible amounts required by their insurance plan. For your convenience, these amounts are collected at the time of your appointment.

​Please note that we do not participate with vision insurance plans (such as routine vision or eyewear-only plans). Our practice focuses on comprehensive medical and surgical eye care.

If you have an HMO insurance, it is your responsibility to bring the necessary authorization from your PCP's office.

If you have questions about your specific plan or coverage, our team is happy to assist you before your visit.

Our goal is to make your appointment as efficient as possible. New patients should plan to spend about 2 hours at our office. If your visit involves scheduling surgery or special testing, you should plan to spend an additional 30 minutes here. As a referral center for complex eye conditions, we occasionally have unplanned emergency visits or patients with complex medical conditions that cause our physicians to run behind schedule. Please note we will do our best to keep these instances to a minimum and do everything possible to minimize disruption to your appointment.

• Completed new patient paperwork

• ID/Driver's License and medical insurance cards

• Your eyeglasses (prescription and readers)

• A list of all medications including eye drops, supplements, vitamins, infusions and over-the-counter medications you take

• The name and contact information for your PCP (primary care physician) or referring Physician or Optometrist

• Preferred pharmacy information

• Sunglasses (if needed for dilation)

We will do our best to inform you ahead of time if your eyes will be dilated during your appointment. Patients coming for complete/annual exams, diabetic exams, cataract evaluations, macular degeneration or floaters/flashes should expect to be dilated. However, there may be instances when the Doctors may need to dilate your eyes without knowing ahead of time, such as during add-on or emergency visits or when there has been a significant change in your vision.

Dilation typically lasts 4-5 hours before wearing off. Your vision will be blurry and you will be sensitive to light. You should bring sunglasses and, if necessary, a driver to drive you home from the appointment.

A refraction is the part of your eye exam that determines your glasses prescription. It measures whether you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism, and it is required to provide an updated prescription for glasses or determine your best vision. This is the part of the exam where you answer, "better 1, or better 2?".

Most medical insurance plans — including Medicare — consider a refraction to be a non-covered service, even when it is performed during a medical eye exam. For this reason, there is a separate refraction fee.

This fee is due at the time of service and cannot be billed to medical insurance. Our team will inform you of the current refraction fee when you schedule your appointment or at check-in.

If you have questions about whether you need a refraction or about your coverage, we are happy to discuss this with you prior to your visit.

We kindly ask that you call our office at least 24 hours before your appointment to cancel or reschedule. We should be able to reschedule you within a few days.
